The Egyptian name Mȝʿ.t-Rʿ, 'the truth of Re' (Gr. Μαρῆς et var.), which in Coptic can occur as ⲙⲁⲣⲉ or ⲙⲁⲣⲟⲩ, is masculine. Here, however, we seem to be dealing with a woman (ⲏ ⲙⲁⲕⲁⲣⲓⲁ, ⲧⲏⲛ (ⲯⲩ)ⲭⲏⲛ ⲁⲩⲧⲏ(ⲥ)). We have here either an example of changing the gender of a name in Nubia or another name, possibly of Nubian origin.
Meaning: 'male child, boy'.
NB. The form ⲡⲁⲗⲱ is classified in TM as a variant (Var 54602) of the supposedly Greek name Palōs (NAM 4812), but Vittmann 1997/8, p. 97, considers it a variant of the Egyptian P3-'lw.
